Four lakh and odd Black Berry Subscribers and four Service Providers which include Bharti Airtel, Vodofone etc may heave a sigh of relief with the statement of the Union Communications and Information Technology Minister, Mr.A. Raja that the security issues relating to the services would be resolved in a week’s time.
Security Agencies have raised serious concerns about allowing the Black Berry services in India in view of the fact that the Canadian Firm ‘Research in Motion’, the vendor of Black Berry Services has not installed a Server in India to monitor emails sent through the system.
While refusing to indicate whether the firm has agreed to install the server in India, the Minister had said that he has been holding high level consultations as a result of which most of the security issues have been resolved to the satisfaction of these agencies.
This service though till date has not been banned or suspended, its fate would be hanging in balance until a clear picture emerges by which the security agencies give a green signal.
