Michel Fourniret is a self-confessed serial killer who is set to stand trial for murdering seven young women in both France and Belgium. Fourniret is 65 years old and was working as a carpenter. So far, the media has given Fourniret the title of “The Orge of the Ardennes.”
In addition to the murders, Fourniret is also being charged on numerous counts of rape. This would give the indication that he raped his victims before killing them. In regards to the murders, Fourniret is being charged with six of them. He is accused of killing seven women.
These murders were carried out over a span of 16 years between 1987 and 2003. Fourniret is also be considered as a pedophile due to the age range of the girls with 12 being the minimum age. The girls were between 12 and 22 years of age. He moved to Belgium after being convicted of being a pedophile back in France. However, Fourniret would return to France from Belgium to continue what he was doing.
Back in 2003 during his arrest, Fourniret attempted to kidnap a girl that was 13. At the age of 13, the girl will be providing evidence to Fourniret’s trial. He was held under Belgian custody before being extradited to France in 2006 to await trial.
Fourniret has quite a history of rape and sexual assault before murdering those six to seven women over the span of 13 years. And there are more murders that are being processed on a separate extent.
It is unknown exactly when the kidnapping/rape/murder spree had begun. But it is estimated that it had begun after 1980 when Fourniret was released from prison. At the same time, he married a volunteer prison worker named Monique Olivier.
Olivier herself is charged for taking part of the kidnapping and murders.
It is expected that many will be attending Fourniret’s trial. Many can be relieved that there is one less serial rapist/killer off the streets. Still, it is unknown how many women that Fourniret has killed since 1980. But those that survived have shown no fear. They openly stated that they are not scared of Fourniret anymore.
