Ex-General Secretary of the Unified Marxist-Leninist (UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal has advised the caretaker Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala to send the first President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav to participate in the 15th SAARC Summit to be held in Colombo from August 1-2. Caretaker Prime Minister Koirala has been facing severe criticism from the Maoists in relation to the issue of representing the newly declared republican Nepal in the SAARC Summit. Maoists have become the largest political force since the Constituent Assembly poll held on 10 April.
UML Ex-Secretary General Madhav Kumar Nepal gave this advice to Koirala who, along with his Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, went to Nepal’s residence at Koteswor in Kathmandu this morning. It has been learnt they discussed on the issue of forming a new government.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala Tuesday held consultations with former CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal on the latest political situation of the country. During their consultation, Nepal is learnt to have said that it would not be very appropriate for the outgoing prime minister to head the Nepal team in the SAARC Summit.
The Nepal government, through a cabinet meeting mostly attended by the Congress ministers, forcefully decided to send the outgoing Prime Minister Koirala as the head of the Nepal team to participate in the Summit. Maoists have then immediately asked the Sri Lankan government not to accept the caretaker representatives since people-given authority matters as to signing in official documents.
The caretaker Prime Minister Koirala took this decision of going to Colombo without consulting the Maoists, the largest party waiting to head the new government.
