Leh, June 29 (Scoop News)-A day long strike by thousands of employees went on under the banner of State Government Employees Association (SGEA) Leh on Saturday to press their demand for grant of 12.5 percent SDA ( Special Duty Allowance) as par with the central Govt. employees serving in Ladakh.
Addressing a huge gathering at Polo ground Leh, the President of the Association Tashi Chospel strongly condemned the step motherly attitude of the state government towards its employees posted in Ladakh region by not paying due heed to our genuine demand of granting SDA. Giving ultimatum to the state government, the president of the Association said that if the demand is not fulfilled, the employees will go on strike w.e.f. 10th July 2013.
He also urged upon the State Government, despite the assurance given by the minister for Finance & Ladakh Affairs in presence of Minister for Urban Development Sh. Nawang Rigzin Jora, during their meeting at Jammu in the month of March 2013 that our demand will be reconsidered sympathetically within shortest possible time. But despite lapse of three months no action/decision has been taken by the State Government.
The gathered was also addressed by the SGEA Vice President Mohd Ayub, Smt Norzin Angmo Vice President ( Women wing). In their address they said, granting of ADA to the central government employees in Ladakh region in the 6th pay commission is by taking into account the high cost of living and climatic conditions of Ladakh region, however the state government employees have been deprived of this assistance due to utter insensitive attitude of state government and lake of understanding the difficulties faced by its employees serving in Ladakh region .The speakers stressed that such insensitive attitude of the state government have led to adverse repercussion owing to agitating the employees who have no choice except to come on the street, or to go on strike by foreseeable which shall not be by choice of the employees.
Later, the employees marched up to Council Secretariat to handover a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir, through CEC, LAHDC, Leh to redress their genuine demands.
