SRI LANKA COUNTERS ‘KILLING FIELDS’ WAVE WITH A SEVERE OFFENSIVE ON THE DIASPORA
The response of the world community to the graphic Channel 4’ ‘Sri Lankan Killing Fields’ documentary is overwhelming. It greatest merit is to confirm authoritatively the UN ‘expert panel’s’ findings on the brutality of SL’s genocide thus disabusing the myths surrounding the hackneyed ‘terrorism’ that SL used to cloud the ‘truth’; a genocide to totally ethnic cleanse SL of Tamils. SL challenging the report, the professionalism of the members of the UN ‘expert panel’ and Channel 4 using undignified name-calling debases SL’s case. The genocide debate however elevates the professionalism of Channel 4 and the U N ‘expert panel’, to SL’s distress.
The foolhardy offensive against these two reputed bodies produced disastrous results for the Buddhist Sinhala genocide regime and its lame apologists. The result, its policy failures earned SL an awfully painful international isolation. Finger pointing over SL policy failures squarely blames its Foreign Ministry, its diplomatic offices, SL’s intelligence including its overseas intelligence networks working out of SL’s diplomatic offices in several countries. SL’s overseas intelligence network, the most dreaded by the diaspora has over the years painfully infiltrated security sensitive vantage points in overseas countries using connections to operate slickly even in countries with unblemished intelligence records. Intelligence work of any kind by outfits of another country is most resented by most countries and promptly stopped. One instance that possibly escaped such action was an overseas counter-intelligence SL plant who boasts about his role in the successful rendition of KP from KL. Rohan Gunaratne faults SL diplomatic missions for not acting smart enough to counter the success of the diaspora in exposing the brutality of the SL genocide. Hence SL’s renewed multi-faceted campaign against the diaspora.
SL successfully promoted its genocide behind the war against ‘terrorism’ veil and about 32 countries proscribed the Tamil resistance (LTTE) as terrorists. Most of these 32 countries now better informed, view SL of being guiltier of (state) terrorist crimes than LTTE. These crimes are covered in the ‘expert panel’ report and the Channel 4 – Killing Fields documentary. Most of the 32 countries now endorse the UN ‘expert panel’ findings and support UN crimes proceedings. On the other hand, to SL’s shame, the diaspora is able to and calls on these 32 countries to retract the original proscription of the LTTE. EU only proscribed it after much hesitation in 2006. The natural course of action for countries misled by SL’s deceptive ‘fighting terrorism’ propaganda is to revoke the injustice of the proscription now on the strength of the ‘expert panel’ report and the Channel 4 – Killing Fields documentary, both exposing SL’s grand deception. EU de-proscribing will re-inforce the mesage of the ‘expert panel anf Killing Fields.
SL grand deception initially was to counter LTTE’s successes in fighting SL genocide in the pre-May 2009 period. That grand deception delivered SL a successful genocide ridding SL of half the Tamil population; killed or driven overseas (the latter now thankfully are the diaspora) whilst the international community was lulled into a stupor following 9/11. The Tamil resistance (LTTE) was fighting SL’s genocide oppression, but SL exploiting the post 9/11 dogmatic Bushism euphoria successfully demonised the LTTE as ‘terrorists’. However though SL’s propaganda was deeply flawed, SL still succeeded; the hardcore dogmatic Bushites were eager to take on board anyone professing to fight terrorism. The defeat of the LTTE deprived the protective umbrella that the Eelam Tamils had between 1983 and 2009 allowing SL to execute its brutal genocide free of the LTTE deterrence. However SL’s murderous genocide trait came into the open to lead to the UN ‘expert panel’ and the Channel 4 ‘Sri Lanka – Killing Fields’ to chillingly and candidly expose it; at tragic costs, the wanton loss of over 40 000 Tamil lives.
In post LTTE the diaspora saw success in exposing to the international community the excesses of the SL genocide brutality, isolating SL internationally and the bringing the UN crimes initiatives knocking at SL’s doors. This development was serious enough for the SL genocide regime to act swiftly. SL acted to re-use its successful pre May 2009 propaganda model to achieve success this time targeting the diaspora for contributing to SL’s plight; international isolation and crimes against humanity proceedings hanging over its head. The format and theme of this propaganda offensive closely follows its pre-May 2009 propaganda model. Given that in post-May 2009 the international community using the more refined concepts of ‘terrorism’, SL’s efforts to label the Tamil cause diaspora as pro-LTTE terrorists failed miserably. SL’s endeavors to ingeniously re-create a ‘terrorists’ phantom out of the diaspora who to the host countries as model citizens earned empathy for their activism for pursuing UN SL crimes initiatives and support to redress the long standing grievances of the Tamils. Palitha Kohona SL’s pathetic spokesman is using the ‘winner takes all’ logic to resists the UN crimes initiatives and redress for Tamil grievances on the grounds that the Tamils as defeated people deserve nothing. This haughty stance instead of winning the host countries over to curtail the pro-Tamil cause diaspora activism since May 2009 earned them and their cause more sympathy.
The essence of SL’s post-May 2009 offensive against the diaspora is argued at length in ‘Thwarting the LTTE’s designs in Europe’ by R Aryasinha SL’s Ambassador to Belgium and EU. This deceptive substandard address has not convinced anyone except the Rajapakses and Manmohan Singhs (and Delhi dogmatic Bushites) leave alone winning the support of the EU governments for SL’s offensive. The ramblings aside the Ambassodor’s refers to irrelevant, out-of-date, recycled cases to create diaspora terrorists ghosts disturbing the peace in the EU host countries. ‘Imagine any scenario..are your worst nightmares of possibly what terrorists can do in your region, country..’?
EU’s has demonstrated support for the Tamil victims of the SL genocide endorsing the ‘expert panel’ report and Channel 4 Killing Fields’ documentary. Surpassing these; EU was the first to apply economic sanctions (withdrawal of tariff preferences for SL textile exports) on SL. In fact the EU endorsing the ‘expert panel’s findings supporting the appointment of an international court to investigate SL’s crimes , are most reassuring to the diaspora cementing its deep loyalty to the host countries throughout Europe. SL’s fight ‘terrorism’ model is appealing most to fellow terrorist countries, like Libya and Iran; and China, Russia and Manmohan Singh’s Delhi, not dharmic India. EU countries’ fear of the diaspora terrorists do not surface even in their dreams.
It is a comedy that SL that used a murderous genocide (to ethnic cleanse SL Tamils aggressively and resist international action to hold SL accountable for its crimes) and turned off the EU countries that once proscribed the LTTE late in 2006, now seeks through its Ambassador to Belgium, EU support against diaspore activism; more so at a time when the diaspora itself is urging EU countries to de-proscribe a non-existent LTTE. The diaspora’s call to de-proscribe is driven by fears that SL targeting the diaspora again will be attempting to recreate phantom terrorists out of the pro-Tamil diaspora activism. Though defeated, the Tamil cause for which the LTTE waged its war against SL still remains. The diaspora’s peaceful lawful activism to promote the Tamil cause now is solely to save the lives of Tamils in SL from repeats of numerous SL massacres; the most murderous May 2009 Mullivaykkal massacre. To SL hell-bent on completing its ethnic cleansing seeks to oppress the diaspora into silence as it silenced Tamil resistance in SL itself.
Hence SL’s aggressive offensive to deceptively demonise the diaspora attaches to it violence labels like the honorific ‘rump of the LTTE’ title. To prove the lethality of the diaspora’s capacity to unleash violence today in EU countries, the desperate Ambassador cites the dated the Central Bank bombing in 1996. In the past many countries including EU countries fell for such SL’s substandard propaganda to treat even those fighting human rights abusers , ethnic cleansers, and genociders as ‘terrorists’; SL succeeded then in a world traumatized by a 9/11 psychosis.
The Ambassador alleges that diaspora elements possess extortion, arms procurement, smuggling, money laundering skills allegedly used in the attack on the Central Bank. The imports of several tons of ROX and TNT from Ukraine allegedly funded with the money extorted (?) from the diaspora in Canada and laundered through a Tamil Canadian (?) to Europe/Singapore, points to a Rohan Gunaratne connection in this concocted intelligence. SL at one time alleged that attack as KP’s work given his close links to the underground arms bazaar but after KP’s rendition from KL and working with Gothabhaya arming the private militias of the Rajapakses is unlikely to assist the diaspora in disturbing peace in EU countries. To overcome the Ambassador’s inability to provide evidence on passport fraud and human trafficking, readers are referred to ‘Why the offensive on the diaspora’ in boloji.com December 2007 in which SL’ counterpart in US Bernard Goonetileke’s parleyed a massive hoax using the Washington Post radio that LTTE stole 130 000 Norwegian passports for sale to Al Qaeda for millions of US dollars. Other frivolous crimes attributed to the diaspora listed are discussed in that ‘boloji.com paper. The Ambassador makes a mockery of the competence of intelligence outfits in the EU countries expecting them to swallow in whole the second hand intelligence the Ambassador incorporates in his address. However the Ambassador’s ‘they constitute a ready army of mercenaries for hire’ sounds chilling. This is the stock in trade of SL’s counter intelligence plants in overseas countries like Rohan.
The Ambassador’s veiled insinuations that EU leaders are acting as pawns of the diaspora ‘vote blocks’. ‘..The crude calculation appears to be, that conscious of the relevance of the community as a vote block, the political establishments in these countries will be relatively soft in meeting the challenge posed by pro-LTTE groups..come under pressure to ignore the activities of the LTTE/front organizations…LTTE front organizations are yet to be listed by the EU. .the US proscribed the Tamil Rehabilitation (only) in 2008’ thus casting doubts on the political motives of the leaders’ actions of those countries. SL spokesmen and its apologists are accustomed to dish out rude comments aplenty routinely to bully Delhi that unashamedly stomachs all the time.
The Ambassador’s comments warning EU countries against complacency or naivety and ‘fooled by the false pretences of those advocates on mono-ethnic separatism’ reveals that SL’s real enemy was ‘autonomy’ that the LTTE fought for and was despised more than ‘terrorism’ itself by SL. The Ambassador and SL equating autonomy aspirations to separatism are products of intellectual dishonesty. How would readers view the ethnic cleansing of Tamils out of SL other than to create a mono-ethnic Buddhist-Sinhala Sri Lanka entity? Once Tamil militancy resorted to insurgency SL camouflaged its past 6+ decade’s long fight for the Tamil cause/autonomy as separatism later terrorism. SL constantly labels the diaspora activism in post May 2009 seeking autonomy to redress the long standing Tamil grievance as fighting for separatism ‘the ideology of the LTTE’. This is deceitful. The diaspora’s autonomy activism does not measure up as a threat to peace in SL less so in the EU countries; Delhi an ardent advocate of autonomy was slighted when the Rajapakses rudely brushed aside Rajiv’s 13th Amendment autonomy as a solution to the Tamil issue.
This same gentleman the Ambassador in his ‘Countering LTTE propaganda’ in the Daily News of November 2010 stated ‘We must remember that Tamil Diaspora activism originated in some Western countries, very much before the LTTE gained a monopoly over the Tamil separatist struggle in Sri Lanka’ citing as evidence the resolution adopted on May 9, 1979 in the Massachusetts State Assembly proclaiming its support to the Eelam Tamils..Therefore, it is not surprising that their (separatist) activities should survive the demise of the LTTE.. in fact one can argue that, with the baggage of the LTTE..off their back, the Tamil diaspora has inadvertently been given a new lease of life internationally..How the Sri Lankan diaspora are using this new found space to re-invent themselves varies. ..It is important that European states and institutions do not provide any political or symbolic support for diaspora‘s peaceful activism seeking autonomy (equating it) to espousing the ideology of the LTTE..’. The Ambassador’s message is that the diaspora even using peaceful means should avoid autonomy demands. Hence according to SL and its Ambassador the diaspore falls into one of two groups; ‘Whether it is ..the diaspora who are unrepentant, militant and continue to seek an independent ‘Tamil Eelam ‘ or whether it should be those peace loving Tamils living both in Sri Lanka as well as abroad , who are ready to move forward with other communities in Sri Lanka in solidarity’. The ‘Move forward’ diaspora are expected to accept all the ethnic cleansing; the killings, mass massacres, mass internments, oppression under army occupation without any protection whatsoever for the lives of Tamils from mini or maxi Mullivaykkal massacres. The unrepentant are the pro-LTTE rump in the diaspora targeted for elimination. One also wonders why SL and the Ambassador call on the diaspora , the ethnic cleansed out victims to ‘repent’ after they endured over 6 long decades of miseries. SL and the Ambassador do not offer anything tangible to allay the fears of the Tamils for their lives. Fleeing SL to save their lives is no picnic for the Tamils.
For sheer survival the Tamils look forward to the humane international community to act through the UN and ICC to provide a deterrence that will also serve as the life saving umbrella the Tamils lost in May 2009. The viewers of Channel 4 ‘Killing Fields’ will be shocked at a hard hearted Ambassador unmoved by the ‘Killing Fields’ documentary to continue to assert that the brutality of the genocide on the Tamil is exaggerated.
