There are a lot of lifestyle changes that a person is to implement in order to improve their health. Our lifestyle affects how we feel, if not today, then tomorrow. Most methods are very straightforward; in order to lose more weight, you will have to exercise more and eat less calories; to avoid being dehydrated, you should drink more water, etc.
However, these are pretty obvious things, but did you know that there are a lot of things that you can do to improve your health, even though those steps seem completely counterintuitive? Here are some of those exact things you can do to improve your health even though they seem like they are quite the opposite.
Eat more to eat less
It may seem like you are doing a good thing by eating a snack such as cookies that has 100 calories, but these things will actually make you a lot hungrier than after eating some healthy food. When you eat smaller amounts of carbohydrates, you will achieve nothing except spiking up your level of blood sugar and ending up with a need to eat some “real” food.
It’s better to eat something that has proteins, like cottage cheese or peanut butter. The protein in them will make you feel full much more quickly and you won’t have the need to eat for a long time. In the end, this will mean less overall calories per day.
Don’t drink energy drinks when you are feeling exhausted
All energy drinks are filled with caffeine and one energy drink may have 5 times more caffeine than a regular cup of coffee. Although their boost can be instant, it lasts for a short time, and it can be followed with many side-effects such as irritability, nervousness, and certain irregularities in terms of your heart health.
Additionally, energy drinks usually have a lot of taurine, which is a stimulant for the central nervous system, and a lot of sugar. These sweets might give you a boost, but after a short period of time, they can crush your sugar levels, leaving you feeling tired and sluggish, in need for another energy drink.
Avoid energy drinks in these situations, as they are not a permanent solution and they will only have a negative effect on your health in the long-term.
Don’t brush your teeth after meals
Everyone thinks that brushing their teeth after their meals is the right thing to do because they will instantly remove all food deposits that may harm their teeth over time. However, you should never brush your teeth right after drinks or meals and this is especially true if the things you had are acidic.
These foods and drinks include sports drinks, sodas, citrus fruits, tomatoes, etc. If you brush your teeth after consuming these things, you will cause the acid to react with your toothpaste and speed up its effect, which could lead to it eroding your teeth.
You should look to wait for at least 30 minutes after you had your meal to brush your teeth. By that time, the acid will vanish and your teeth will be safe.
To take a great nap, drink coffee before it
A Japanese study which tested the best way possible to take a productive nap has determined that people who drink coffee before their nap and then quickly jump to bed for a quick nap, wake up after 20 minutes feeling quite alert and ready to do any task they have on their plate.
So why is this so effective? It’s quite simple actually; when your nap ends, the caffeine will start to kick in and it clears your brain of adenosine and increases your alertness. This molecule makes us fatigues and, when we nap, it clears it from our system additionally and, combined with caffeine, which is a blocker for this molecule, it improves the overall effectiveness of our naps.
Feeling tired? Work out
When you’ve had a tough, long day, you probably don’t even think about exercising. However, only a few people know that working out when you are tired actually helps you increase your energy levels. Both your mood and energy will improve when you do some mid-intensity training that lasts around 30 minutes.
Try these things out and you will realize that they are actually quite true and that they can help you a lot. Don’t believe everything people say. You don’t have to torture yourself to achieve something, and sometimes, there are easy solutions.
