First Simon Cowell watched Adam Lambert finish second on American Idol, now he travels back to England only to watch the world’s favorite frumpy opera singer lose to a dance troop.
On the season finale of "Britain’s Got Talent", crowd favorite Susan Boyle was toppled by a dance group named "Diversity".
The dance group won $100, 000 (which equates to $159,000 in American dollars) and a chance to perform in front Queen Elizabeth II at the "Royal Variety Show".
Although Boyle’s is loss is shocking, it is not surprising.
The first time Boyle performed "I Dreamed A Dream" from Les Miserable, she became a YouTube sensation simply because none of the judges nor the audience on "Britain’s Got Talent" thought that a woman with Boyle’s looks would have such a beautiful voice.
However, once Boyle became a media star, the tide started to turn.
First, each week after Boyle’s stellar performance, there seemed to be YouTube videos of equally impressive "Britain’s Got Talent" performers.
Then Susan Boyle did something that probably cost her the "Britain’s Got Talent" crown.
She got a makeover.
From that point on, the dowdy, never been kissed underdog with gray hair who people loved was gone. In her place was a dowdy, a few times kissed front runner with brown hair, wearing lip gloss and designer outfits.
There was absolutely nothing wrong in Susan Boyle receiving a makeover. In fact, she deserved the opportunity to be treated like the Queen of England for once in her life.
But the reason audiences around the world loved her was because she was not a packaged beauty with limited vocals skills like Britney Spears or Rhianna.
Instead, Susan Boyle was an average looking woman blessed with extraordinary vocal ability.
However, when Boyle performed "I Dreamed A Dream" again for show’s finale, the crowd still loved her, but the impact was not quite the same.
Sure she shimmied for Cowell again and her cocky fun loving attitude was still a crowd pleaser , but Boyles’ tweezed eyebrows and overexposure probably cost her the "Britain’s Got Talent" title more so than Diversity’s dancing ability.
However, like American Idol’s Adam Lambert , Susan Boyle still won by losing.
If she hasn’t done so already , Boyle will probably sign with record company, most likely Simon Cowell’s recording label ‘Syco music’ , (where she would join his other operatic sensation Ill Divo).
Boyle will also hit the road soon, where Ellen, Billy Bush, Ryan Seacrest, Jay Leno, Larry King, David Letterman and Oprah will fight for her attention , (allegedly former teen idol Donny Osmond has already sent an invitation to Boyle to perform with him in Las Vegas…Donny & Frumpee anyone).
Time will tell if Susan Boyle will embrace her new found celebrity and become a star or decide to grow her eyebrows back and run away from bright lights of fame, but at least music lovers will always remember the first time they saw a frumpy Scottish woman sing like an angel on YouTube and make Simon Cowell speechless for the first time in his life.
