Susan Elbaneh, an 18 year-old from Lackawanna, New York, was the only American out of 16 people killed in a bombing attack of the U.S. Embassy in Sanna, Yemen on Wednesday.
Susan Elbaneh was in Yemen to get married to a Yemeni man and was with him at the embassy applying for his visa to come to America when the car bomb exploded. Both of them were killed.
The muslim community of Lackawanna is in shock after the news of Susan Elbaneh’s death. "I spoke to her two weeks ago to see how she was doing and, for the first time in my history, I told my sister I love her," Susan’s brother Ahmed Elbaneh said.
Susan Elbaneh was planning on coming back to America with her husband where she would complete her high school degree at Lackawanna High School and study to become a nurse. The high school has brought in grief counselors to help grieving students.
