Security Forces claim killing famous Taliban local commander Omer Khalid on Wednesday evening in a clash that also killed 8 other militants in lakarho Tehsil Qandharo area, Mohmand Agency, the area adjacent to Afghanistan and Bajaur Agency. 15 more militants were also reportedly killed in Tehsil Pandalai A military source informed that this was a major break through for security forces after a two week heavy assault against militants.
Taliban spokesman in Mohmand Agency Ikram denied killing of Omer Khalid and said that Omer Khalid moved to safe area which was a part of their strategy. However Military sources are adamant over their claim.
The operation was launched with light and heavy machine gun and was a continuation of yesterday operation where 60 militants were killed.
Local sources say that security forces celebrate killing of Omer Khalid with aerial firing and shahdhola (a famous tribal dance).
Omer Khalid was a close aide of Baitulla Mehsood, and was considered as number three in Taliban hierarchy.
Security forces have launched fresh operations in Mohmand Agency, which has become more severe this week as this was a third major assault after thirteen militants were killed last Wednesday and 60 others yesterday.
The death of Omer Khalid would be considered a major loss to Tehreke Taliban as he was a leading figure and was engaged with handling activities of Taliban in Mohmand Agency for the last two years.
