Big businessmen and conglomerates may have felt restless over the recent government’s crackdown on corporate taxpayers through tax mapping system.
Surely, this initiative would not only hurt the feelings of businessmen and corporations alike, but some internal revenue officials who are suspected to connive with corporate accountants to defraud the government of huge revenues.
As the saying goes, happy days are over for them. But I doubt if this will correct the tax deficiencies of the government. But at least, it was a step in the right direction. With this, the Bureau of Internal Revenue can now forecast as to how much it can collect for so and so period because of the tax mapping initiative.
This could have been done many, many years ago. For how could a country like the Philippines move forward, when only the fixed wage earners are being taxed, while the big corporations are getting away with it. For me it is grossly unfair. At least, the government woke up to come to the rescue by departing from its old practice and reviving the tax mapping system, a move that is expected to generate more revenues for the government.
It is hoped that the Bureau of Internal Revenue will continue to keep what it has started and sustain this move, whoever gets hurt.
