Hyderabad: 6 April 2008 The much awaited storming of Andhra Pradesh political scene by Mega Star Chiranjeevi, the heart throb of millions of South Indian film fans, will at least take another two months, according to his brother in law and chief advisor Allu Aravind. Aravind’s declaration at a press conference that Mega Star has high respects for the sentiments of his millions of fans who want him to join the politics by launching his new political party indicates that the mega star has at last made up his mind about his political party. It must be pointed out that hundreds of thousands of his fans have been for a long time conducting rallies, processions, meetings and seminars requesting the Mega Star to launch the political party ASAP. That the star would launch a new political party has been making the rounds for the last one year. Every one has been waiting with enthusiasm for the much talked about entry of the successful movie star in to the state politics. The entire state of Andhra Pradesh expected an announcement by the Mega Star on the Telugu New Year day Ugadi today but instead his brother in law cum advisor made the announcement that it would take another two months at least for Chiranjeevi to make his mind clear. What could be the dilemma of the Mega Star Chiranjeevi in postponing his decision? It seems he has conclusively decided that any announcement on launching his new party must be accompanied by a clear – cut announcement of his stand on the issue of separate statehood for Telangana region of the state. But can he ever take a decision on this sensitive issue? TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samithi ) has been spearheading the agitation for carving out a separate statehood for the Telangana region of the state. The recent resignation of 16 MLAs and 4 Lok Sabha members in support of their agitation is very shortly resulting in bye elections to the constituencies represented by them. If Chiranjeevi had announced his party without declaring his stand on the important issue, it would have become difficult for him to contest the bye elections. And once the new political party is launched before the elections, he cannot refrain from contesting them. In such a case, he would be branded as a person of having no clear cut policy on and understanding of issues. He would certainly be called an escapist. But Telangana issue is a burning problem and at least in the future, if not now, the Mega Star would have to declare his stand on the T-issue. He can not postpone it permanently. And his fear is that if he takes a favourable decision for separate Telangana, people of Telangana region would feel happy and his party would win majority seats in Telangana areas but the people of Andhra and Rayalaseema regions would not be able to digest it and are bound to defeat his new party in the elections as they want an united Andhra Pradesh. If he says no to separate Telangana, he would face the wrath of Telangana people. Millions of his fans in some or most areas of the state would turn his foes overnight depending on his decision, what ever it is. Unfortunately, he has mass following in the three regions of the state of Andhra Pradesh – Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana – and he cannot afford to antagonize people of one or two areas and lose their love and affection for a decision on the T-issue. What a mega dilemma for the Mega Star! It is a pity that the Telangana issue is coming in the way of pursuing his political career in the state politics. Let us only hope that this mega dilemma would not keep the Mega Star permanently from jumping into the political bandwagon of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
