The Olympic Torch Arrives in India on April 17th

The Olympic Torch arrives in India on April, 17th, from China, via Pakistan. Allaying fears of China, that Tibetan supporters and protestors may disrupt the smooth passage and movement of the Olympic torch when it comes to India, India’s National Sercurity Advisor , Mr. M.K.Narayanan said that India would provide all possible arrangements to ensure that the Olympic torch travels through India peacefully. China has also said that the Nations on the relay route have the obligation to ensure the smooth passage of the Olympic Torch.

It may be recalled that during the recent disturbances that occurred in Tibet, caused by supporters of the Dalai Lama who is in exiled, India maintained a studied silence and neutrality and did not openly support the Dalai Lama, as done by the US. Eventhough the BJP termed the incidents that happened in Tibet as a ‘Cultural Genocide’, the Indian Government was very sublime and mild in commenting upon the events that happened in Tibet, and China has also appreciated the consistent stand taken by India on Tibetan recent incidents. It is therefore expected that India will provide a fool-proof security and ensure that the Olympic Torch will have a peaceful passage.
