The sun finally sets on a long wet day in Iowa. It’s been a whopper of a day with the Nishnabotna River exceeding its banks by almost thirteen feet. The Red Oak creek gave everyone a little scare too. It looks though, as if it’s ending. The long windy road of recovery will soon begin. That’s, as long as the rain holds off for a little while. If the rain picks back up, even later in the week, the ground will be so saturated flooding could easily occur. I imagine it’s been a really rough day for the workers trying to keep the damage to a minimum but they handled the job pretty well. While the river’s and creeks, but especially the Nishnabotna, are still over their banks but the good news is they are showing definite signs of retreating. So let’s hope for a dry day here tomorrow and hope the people of Red Oak, Coburg, Hastings, and Henderson can fully recover from this damaging torrent of rain and storms.
