Throughout my adventures in India, I have come across many inspiring individuals. Of the people I have met and heard of, my knowledge of Rajesh Wari will leave a lasting impression on my mind.
Rajesh Wari is a hyper local community reporter from Addateegala Village. This Village is located in Andhra Pradesh, a state of India. She had no previous experience in any profession except as an agricultural laborer, and until recently didn’t know that anyone in the world spoke any language but Telugu!
What Rajesh did have was a determination to bring attention towards the marginalized in her society. She was contacted by Video Volunteers, a non-profit organization dedicated to amplifying marginalized community voices, where she attended her first seminar to learn how to direct and produce films.
She now works with a Community Video Unit (CVU), which covers local issues in her home town and other surrounding areas. Their last video called "Forest Acts and Rights", reviews the new Forest Rights Act in India, which essentially gives local tribes the right to live in the forests and cultivate the lands.
The video goes on to discuss the benefits and also the problems of this act, but being from the area, Rajesh and her CVU team were able to engage in more more interviews and extract more prevalent information than a main stream media group.
To learn more about what this inspiring individual and her colleagues do, watch their latest video, and discover the lives of those who have never been heard…until now!
