Isleworth, FLA– Famed professional golfer Tiger Woods was seriously injured early Friday morning in a car accident near his Florida home, the Florida Highway Patrol has reported.
The Orlando Sentinel reported the crash occurred at 2:25 AM, and that emergency services were called at 2:28 AM .
Central Florida News also said the Florida Highway Patrol said "it was not an alcohol-related crash."
Tiger Woods, 33, drove his 2009 black Cadillac Escalade into a fire hydrant and tree on his neighbor’s property. Woods’ airbags did not deploy, likely meaning he was traveling less than 33 miles per hour. He was taken to Health Central Hospital for treatment.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported the news to the media just after 2 PM Friday. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
New York Times media reporter Brian Stelter tweeted that FOX News first reported the news Friday at at 2:35 PM, interrupting regular coverage. CNN followed suit at 2:41 PM, and ESPN reported the news at 2:46 PM.
Also on Twitter, BNO News reported that WESH-TV said Tiger Woods was being treated for facial lacerations.
Shortly afterwards, CNBC Sports Reporter Darren Rovell tweeted at 3:30 PM that Tiger Woods agent said, "he is fine."
Update: Breaking News reports that Tiger Woods has been released from the hospital.
