This year TNA held it’s annual Victory Road PPV live at Houston, Texas. Slated for the main event was Samoa Joe vs Booker T for the TNA Heayweight Championship. On paper, this PPV had the potential to be a very good PPV with lots of action. Did it go down that way, is the big question. Throughout the broadcast, they’re were many mistakes and storylines that proved to be somewhat ridiculous.
One of the things that many fans found that made no sense was the TNA knockouts title match between Taylor Wilde and Awesome Kong. The match itself was very decent with Taylor getting a clean pinfall victory over Awesome Kong. Which is where the many questions begin. Taylor Wilde (Shantelle Taylor) was only in the company at least a good month and already, she had gotten two clean victories over the champ? The match should have ended in a DQ to make both competitors coming out looking stronge. Then they had Abyss coming out to save Taylor from a beatdown.. Unless Abyss is gonna start fueding with a knockout.. it was absolutely uncalled for and ridiculous.
Speaking of knockouts, that same night Angelina Love went one on one with Gail Kim in what many people felt was the beginning of a monster push for Love. Turns out, all those weeks of video packages were meant to once again push Gail Kim, which I have no problem with. The problem that I do have is the fact that TNA refuses to put credibility on Love and once again, they rely on their older talent. It’s a nontitle match, it’s not even a number 1 contender’s match, so why not give some credibility to Love?
The main event was another slap in the face. The TNA Championship was the line with Samoa Joe defending against Booker T. Just like the knockouts title match, the ending was very ridiculous. The match itself was an awesome match, both Booker T and Samoa Joe gave everything they had. The finish saw Samoa Joe snap and take down everyone including Booker T which led to a confrontation between Sting and Joe. The end result: Sting knocks out Joe with a bat, Booker pins Joe and his wife, Sharmell, makes the three count. Now if that ain’t a rip off, then I don’t know what is. You see, the main reason a fan buys a PPV is for the main event. Doing this kind of a finish is unacceptable because your basically screwing the fans who spend a lot of hard earned money to watch a decent main event. On free television, it’s okay, but not on a PPV.
In closing, TNA’s Victory Road may not have been the worst PPV of the year, thanks to all the midcarders who worked their asses off on the PPV, but it still ranks low for the screwy finish of the show. One bit of advice TNA, You use free TV to get people to buy the PPV, not the other way around.
