Voicing their concern over the huge losses suffered by nomads families due to heavy rains that lashed Jammu for two days, the leaders of Jammu Kashmir Tribal United Forum (TUF), an organisation working for the affairs of Gujjar & Bakerwal Tribes, have today urged the State Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah to immediately constitute a high level committee to make an accurate assessment of the losses of these nomads.
While demanding adequate compensation and relief for the affected nomadic families, Roshan Din Choudhary, State Chief of Forum said that so far no Minister/Legislator or Senior Officer has been deputed by the Govt. to take stock of the situation in the areas where nomads are dwelling in Kullas or putting up in open air with the cattle and belongings, which was most unfortunate. He also said that the State Government should be prepared for such natural eventualities and disasters and required to be initiate immediate rehabilitation of the dislodged families.
In a press statement issued here, Dr. Zabeer Ahmed Bajjar, general secretary of forum disclosed that a team of Tribal United Forum (TUF), comprised of Adv. M.I.Khan, Shah Mohd, Tanwir Ahmed, Adv. Pervaiz Choudhary, Adv. Tanzir Khatana and Adv. Zaffer Choudhary,
under the supervision of President of Forum, Roshan Choudhary, today visited few places like Satwari, Bilol in Simbal and Kalali, R.S.Pura and conducted an approximate survey of the losses of nomads which revealed that in Satwari six Kullas were badly damaged with huge loss of belongings of nomads. In Bilol, Simbal 30-40 Kullas alongwith the households items were completely damaged or submerged due to heavy rains . However, in Kalali, R.S.Pura, maximum loss occurred in which fifteen Kullas and 21 Buffaloes of the Tribals were washed away. Dr. Bajjar appealed the Govt. to provide the relief to these nomads at the earliest and their rehabilitation must be done forthwith.
