Turkish cobra helicopters demolished suspected Kurdish rebel targets today on the south-eastern border with Iraq in a second day of fighting in the Mount Cudi area. The Turkish Government has called a special Cabinet level meeting to discuss further harsh measures against Kurdish rebel dominated area in Iraq. The Turkish attack on the mountainside positions in Sirnak province began early on Monday with helicopter rocket attacks. Transport helicopters then flew in commando teams and trucks later drove more troops to the area. In the light of the latest developments, the pressure on Turkey is mounting from the United States and the European Union to refrain from cross-border attacks on Kurdish rebels based in northern Iraq.
