Srinagar, September 17 (Scoop News)- Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India, released the latest issue of the ‘Central Asian Digest’, brought out by the Centre for Central Asian Studies, University of Kashmir, in the presence of N. N. Vohra, Governor Jammu and Kashmir, and Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor of the University, at the Raj Bhavan, here today.
Eleven faculty members of the Centre for Central Asian Studies, headed by Prof. G. R. Jan, Director of the Centre, briefed the Vice President about the research activities of the Centre which focus on varied issues relating to the Central Asian countries, including the revival of
The Vice President and the Governor were presented details about the work so far done by this Centre, since its establishment in 1978. Prof. Jan stated that the topics of historical importance and contemporary relevance are among the main focus of the ongoing research activities of the Centre. He added that this Centre regularly brings out its journal as well as the Central Asian Digest and organizes workshops, conferences and other relevant programmes.
The Vice President and the Governor evinced keen interest in the presentation on the activities of the Centre for Central Asian Studies. The Governor, who is Chancellor of the Kashmir University, suggested to the Vice Chancellor to consider establishment of a School of Central Asian Languages for the larger benefit of the researchers.
Earlier, Prof. G. R. Jan, Director of the Centre for Central Asian Studies, presented mementos to the Vice President and the Governor.
