Along with both the Philippines and Indonesia, the country of Vietnam will co-host the Miss Earth 2007 pageant. This competition will take place at the end of this month in Nha Trang. The editor-in-chief of Thanh Nien Daily will be part of the panel of judges running the event from October 30 to November 11. It is said that Khe will be the first Vietnamese person to be on the panel of judges.
This is also the first time that Vietnam has the honor of hosting such an international event such as Miss Earth.
Last year’s Miss Earth winner Hil Yesenia Hernandez will also serve on the international panel of judges this year. They haven’t announced judges form the Philippines yet. Miss Hernandez as said that she is satisfied with how Vietnam has prepared for the Miss Earth 2007 competition.
This contest is organized by Carousel Production Inc with the intention of promotion preservation and protection of the earth. There are four prizes and titles signaling the elements of the earth: Miss Earth, Miss Earth Air, Miss Earth Fire, and Miss Earth Water. Ever since the creation six years ago, the pageant was mainly held in the Philippines.
The previous winners have traveled around Vietnam to bring public attention to the issues of pollution, deforestation, and global warming.
Contestants will compete in a traditional ao dai costume which is the Vietnamese traditional long dress, the swim suit competition, and the formal-wear competition. They will also participate in various environmental promoting activities.
