
Srinagar,October 04, (Scoop News)- Maintaining that the government has restored the essential infrastructure of vital sectors like PHE, PDD, UEED, R&B and CA&PD to a large extent so that the people get the requisite essentials and are provided with the basic amenities besides mitigating their other problems.
The information was given by the Chief Engineers of PHE, PDD, R&B, UEED and Director CA&PD while interacting with media fraternity to give the first hand information about the restoration measures being carried out by the concerned departments during the recent floods.
Chief Engineer PHE maintained that as many as 19048 water supply schemes were functional before the floods out of which 1302 got damaged and subsequently due to the tireless efforts temporary restoration of 18000 schemes has been done and have started providing potable water to the people. He said that the department is providing 17 million gallons of water to the people of Srinagar city and maintained that additional tankers have also been put in place for distribution of water in various vicinity as well, “We have also installed numerous reverse osmosis water purifiers for ensuring that quality of water is maintained”, he added.
Chief Engineer R&B while enlisting the damages suffered by the sector as a result of the recent floods maintained that 283 bridges were damaged while 54 got washed away. He said that we have undertaken the temporary restoration of majority of these bridges and made them functional so that the people of different areas get connected. He also divulged that restoration of 127 Kms of road which were washed away due to the recent floods have also been restored.
The Chief Engineer also gave out that five teams have been constituted to assess the magnitude of damage caused to the infrastructure due to the floods. He said that advisory has also been issued in this matter which has been published in different newspapers.
While maintaining that electricity has been restored in the major parts of the valley, Chief Engineer PDD said that in Srinagar 92% of it has been restored and the remaining areas would be provided electricity very soon. He said out of the 22700 distribution transformers damaged 22000 have been made functional and are working.
The Chief Engineer UEED maintained that out of the 76 dewatering stations 52 were submerged resulting in damages to them but all have been made cent percent functional and are functioning normally. He said 45 mobile dewatering units and 28 heavy duty pumps have been arranged from outside state which were deployed for dewatering of the water logged areas. He also told that 7.1 MLD STP at Brarinambal which was also submerged has been restored besides those at Boulevard, Khanyar, Jogilankar and Bagwanpora have also started functioning.
The Director CA&PD while maintaining that adequate mechanism has been put in place to ensure that the people get the requisite supply of food grains and other essentials said that 32527 MTs of rice have been allotted for distribution to the different districts of the valley out of which 32450 MTs has been lifted. He said that 9178 MTs of rice have been released for distribution as relief for flood affected people out of which 7362 MTs have been lifted. Similarly, 35735 MTs of Sugar and 3172 MTs of K. Oil have been allotted for distribution.
