In honor of what would have been his 125th birthday, Google celebrated the birthday of Walter Gropius today, by creating the signature Google search logo below.
Along with Le Corbusier and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Walter Adolph Georg Gropius was a founder of the Bauhaus design movement. He was born May 18, 1883.
Gropius was born in Berlin, breifly served as a reservist in World War I, and succeeded the Belgian head of the Grand-Ducal Saxon School of Arts and Crafts in Weimar. When the Belgian master was forced to step down because of his nationality, Gropius stepped in, establishing Bauhaus and attracting a prestigious faculty that including Paul Klee, Johannes Itten, Josef Albers, Herbet Bayer, László Moholy-Nagy, Otto Bartning and Wassily Kandinsky.
