The beginning of a new year is a good time to look back at and sum up the previous year. We would therefore like to show you the best selling categories on international markets at the end of 2014. Webinterpret has prepared an analysis of the top 3 best selling categories in foreign markets in November and December 2014. Webinterpret has compared 3 countries – the United Kingdom and Germany.
Top 3 categories in the United Kingdom
In the list of the top 3 best selling categories in December in the United Kingdom, the number 1 category is “Clothes, Shoes & Accessories”. This category is considered to be the top one because it has generated the highest amount of international revenue compared to the other categories sold in cross border trade. The generated amount of international revenue is 6.09% of the whole revenue. By the “whole revenue” we understand the revenue generated on items listed on original sites plus revenue from items listed on international sites. This means that the sellers who have domestic listings also sold their inventory in foreign markets and what they earned in foreign markets is giving them an additional 6% of revenue. In second place we find “Home & Garden”, generating international revenue that is 3.5% of the whole revenue. The third place goes to “Vehicle Parts & Accessories”. This last category on the podium generated 5% of revenue. We see here that December was a good time for international sales because of the Christmas season which attracts many online buyers. The analysis shows the connection between this hot season and the scale of sales.

Selling top categories worldwide
While German online retailers are the leaders in terms of selling their cars, the sellers in the United Kingdom are the pioneers of selling fashion. Does this mean that UK sellers who sell cars have to move to Germany to grow their business? And does this mean that fashion designers have to take a trip to the United Kingdom to find their customers? Of course not! The key to successful international sales is the translation and localisation of their products and the visibility on foreign markets that this enables. So it is all about finding the turnkey solution that enables access to customers all over the world – even if they cannot speak the buyer’s language.
