Bill Richardson, the current first and only Latino governor in the United States let alone New Mexico is a superdelegate and a former Democratic presidential hopeful. In a recent turn of events, Richardson who has been a longtime friend to both Democratic co-frontrunner Hillary Clinton and her husband, former US President Bill Clinton, has given his endorsement to Democratic co-frontrunner Barack Obama.
Richardson came in fourth place during the Democratic caucus in Iowa. He had dropped out of the race after the New Hampshire primary. Before the March 4 contests, he had said that there needs to be a nominee before the Democratic National Convention set to take place this August in Denver, Colorado. He had said that the continued race between frontrunners Clinton and Obama have hurt the Democratic Party.
Recently, Richardson had given his endorsement to Obama. However, the Clinton campaign shrugged off the endorsement calling it as “insignificant.”
However, Richardson made it known that he is still a friend to the Clintons despite giving his endorsement to Obama. He had also noted that there was too much negativity in the Democratic race.
Before becoming New Mexico’s governor, Richardson was the Secretary of Energy under Bill Clinton’s administration.
