Wildlife and natural resource to benefit locals
BY WANJALA .B. DANSON
Wildlife and natural resource has become a major concern in adding value to many lives in the country, however, it has progressively faced enemas challenges resulting from poaching and Shuman encroachment.
United National development program (UNDP) has come up with a program which is bound to help in managing and conserving natural resources, resource mobilization and ecotourism
the beneficiaries of the program are in Kakamega, Buyangu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, west Pokot, Vihiga, C and Tranzoia.
Dr Joram Kang’ombe forest research scientist said that the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the community should join hand in educating others on how to preserve, keep and moderate the movements of people and animals in the forests.
This is because there are several small animals apart big animals such as species of snakes, butterflies, monkeys and birds that attract tourist therefor generate income to the Centre Government and and also county government in Kenya..
This is among the tropical rain forest in Africa that has natural trees and occupies a total area of 23000 hectares of land which is shared with the KWS and the forest
Proper legislation and implementation of activities that will help conserve the vegetation like the Nyayo tea zone and natural zones that bring the community together will help to harmonize working efficiency.
Lack of proper education, skills and ownership has led to lose of finance that bring about a lot of destruction in the forest, poor infrastructure, population increase inadequate resources, human wildlife conflict.
Uncontrolled movements have led many porches to consequently lead to extinction of many animal and plant species causing not only a local but a global crisis in the forest.
Construction of infrastructures, building bridges, resource centers, health facilities, communication network, expertized water supply and constructing fence in the forest leading to more accessibility in the area for tourism.
The forest should put in place firefighting equipment’s, financial management skills, promoting carbon 20 that help in exchange of gas.
Mr Joel Siele said poaching of trees and sensitization tree enterprise will help to mitigate encroachers in the forest
