Poetry From The Heart
Tom, the turkey, moseys in the barnyard
understands it’s time he must be on guard.
He saw his master waving a battle-ax
aware to keep an eye on his neck.
He’s been saved for several years
while others were hunted and feared.
Tom’s been the King of the farmyard
shields creatures others tried to harm.
He’s battled roosters and hens
never walked away without a chief win.
Farmer Joe’s aware Tom rules the court
Tom’s hoping it’s not his end result.
Joe moves into risky territory
Tom suffers fear and lots of worry.
He struts around and flaps heady wings
trusts Joe sees he’s watching over things.
Joe reaches down and picks-up Tom
frightened he’ll receive a time bomb.
Joe rubs Tom’s beard and puts him down
back into the fence Joe scouts around.
Tom breathes a great big sigh…
wipes tears from his watering eyes.
He’s been saved for another year
beats his wings and delivers a cheer…
Happy Thanksgiving to one and all for another year!
