The Woodstock music festival took place 40 years ago this month. I do not remember it. No, I wasn’t stoned or drunk at the time. Back then, I was 12 years old and stuck on the New York Thruway with my parents and brothers headed south to Long Island from our road trip around New York State.
We went to Niagara Falls, the Eastman House in Rochester, Watkins Glen and other places I do not remember.
We were stuck on the New York Thruway for many hours. I didn’t know until I saw the promos for the new movie about Eliot Tiber and Woodstock a few weeks ago that the State Police shut down the Thruway.
Honestly, Woodstock didn’t have much impact on me at the time, but it has always been in the background. I thought of it when I saw such Sixties luminaries as Timothy Leary and Richie Havens or when I interviewed Michelle Phillips. -30-
