Your child is everything and you have to be aware of what could cause harm. There are products from big names that have been recalled, and you need to know about them. You’re going to learn about the five recent recalls every parent should be aware of.
- IKEA Dressers
29 million dressers have been recalled because of fears that they can topple over without warning. The Malm model chests must be anchored to the wall, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The original fears were raised in 2014 when two children were killed when these products toppled over.
Another child was killed in 2016. And previous incarnations dating back to 1989 have also possessed the same problem. This has finally prompted a recall of all units.
- Betty Crocker Cake Mix
Betty Crocker Delights Super Moist Party Rainbow Chip Cake Mix and Better Crocker Delights Super Moist Carrot Cake Mix have been included as part of a general recall. This falls in line with a number of other food products from multiple companies due to a multistate E. Coli outbreak. The outbreak has been connected to several brands of flour.
If contaminated, children are likely to fall ill. Depending on the severity of the outbreak, illnesses could be severe.
- Cra-Z-Jewelz Ultimate Gem Machine
If you have a little girl at home, the chances are they love jewelry. Beware of the Cra-Z-Jewelz Ultimate Gem Machine from LaRose Industries. The slider bracelet within the kit has been found to have dangerously high levels of lead. If placed in the mouth, this can cause lead to enter your child’s digestive system.
Lead has been associated with brain damage and can even kill if consumed in large enough doses. 175,000 units have been recalled.
- World Plus Combination Forward Facing Child Restraint Systems
In-car safety is important and you don’t want to compromise on it. Kiddy USA’s World Plus combination forward facing child restraint systems have been recalled because the buckles aren’t able to engage properly. Partial engagement means that it’s no better than placing your child in the car without any restraints at all. This recall is still ongoing, after starting in April 2016.
The recall applies to 4,000 units. The problem is this is difficult to spot because the buckle still looks like it’s fully engaged.
- HP and Compaq Notebook Computers Batteries
Batteries for the HP and Compaq notebook computers have been recalled following concerns over fire and burn hazards. These lithium ion batteries have a defect in their cooling systems, which can lead to overheating. In the US, there are 41,000 of these units. It should be noted that a number of this batch of batteries were sold in Canada and Mexico.
What Should You Do?
If you have any of these products, get in contact with the company in question. They will provide full reimbursement or a replacement product. Send the product back to them and they will take it from there.
