Bike and Skateboard Riding on HKUST Campus

Recently Safety Office has received reports on a number of cases involving riding skateboards and bicycles erratically and at high speed around HKUST campus. These dangerous incidents had occurred in the atrium, in the parking lot, on roads with steep incline, etc. Such acts are not only hazardous to the riders but are also threatening to the safety of others.

In this connection, the members of campus community are reminded that the facilities of campus are not designed for such dangerous activities and that the Security colleagues will take prompt action to stop such occurrences. Parents are also urged to share this information with their children and supervise them accordingly.

Those who choose to ride bicycles on campus must follow traffic safety rules and observe personal safety practices. Never carry an additional person on the bike as that can lead to terrible falls and critical injuries as illustrated in a recent accident at a sister institution.
