Cool hills and dense jungles to sun –kissed beaches

Nestling between the eastern and the Western Ghats and sloping down into the Arabian Sea in the west is Karnataka, formerly knows as Mysore. Chiefly a tableland, it is the home of sandalwood and spice, ebony and elephant, coffee and cedar, peacock and gold. The tableland, the hills and the seashore offer a variety of climate and landscape: from cool hills and dense jungles to sun –kissed beaches.

Karnataka is fed by several rivers, chiefly the Cauveri in the south and the Krishna and the Tungabhadra in the north. The land is rich in natural resources, which include gold. The mountains and the rivers and the sea have combined to cool hills and dense jungles to sun –kissed beaches.

The ubiquitous Mysorean or Kannadiga has made himself felt, although unobtrusively and self –effacingly. He is proud in an inward sort of way. Look at the list of administrators, engineers, filmstars, beauty queens, sportsmen and women that Karnataka has produced. Even the first Indian Chief of the Army hailed from this land.

Everything is subdued, whether it is order or prejudice. There is gaiety without ostentation. There is clearly no desire to stick one’s neck out. Color there is in plenty, not loud or garnish. Humor is gentle, not raucous or rumbustious.
