Crowd funding is a new concept in journalism industry

Like The Voice of San Diego (www.http://voiceofsandiego.org/) we also going to produce an independent and not-for-profit digital (online) and print magazine( Bengali edition) which will provide crime and human rights related stories for the global community which relies on donations. So we need foundations and individual donors to back our non-profit venture. The media outlet will be run with shoe string budget and skeleton stuff with maximum seven to nine reporters and sub-editors but at the same time will stay stylish on a shoestring budget. We will generally use royalty free pictures and rely on freelance reporters budget and invite guest editors to edit a certain section for every issue. In fact newspaper industry across the world is facing serious financial trouble. Various media outlets are shedding staff and reducing services.Tumbling advertisement revenues and other factors are the main reasons behind this current scenario.we will highlight and thus make people aware of such global issues as human trafficking, drug trafficking, atrocities against the LGBT community, cross border terrorism, cyber crimes, forensic sciences, criminal psychology, atrocities against women, AIDS/HIV, domestic violence, corruption in high places, serial killing and other important human rights issues. It will be interactive in nature with additional content. I do agree with Mark Glaser, the executive editor of PBS MediaShift and Idea Lab that crowd funding can save journalism business.
