Kneeling Out Of Respect In Prayer

Do you kneel to God when You pray? If you kneel what is your reasoning for kneeling, respect, courtesy, fear? Is there biblical scripture about kneeling? Is there any biblical scripture either by God our Father, or, by Jesus whereby we are commanded to kneel when we pray?

Almighty God and Christ Jesus, are God, it was they that created the earth and all upon or within it. It was they that created you and me. We all of us, owe God and Jesus, our life and our continued existance. If that is not reason enough to kneel as one prays, I don’t know what is.

The Psalmist David instructs: PSALM: 95: 6; "O come let us worship and bow down: let us ‘Kneel’ before the Lord our Maker."

This quote alone from the Psalms would indicate that it is more than fitting, also a sign of respect and reverence to worship our "Maker" our Creator on our knees, whether we are offering worship and thanksgiving, or, whether we are pleading mercy or help with some problem.

Back in the time of Jesus, if one commited some criminal act, and desired clemency, mercy for their deed, they would be expected to kneel before maybe someone like Caiaphas the High Priest, or, some King, or, some Roman Governor like Pontius Pilate, to beg and plead their Case.

If you were diseased like a leper, and became cleansed you would be expected to report to the High Priest and be declared cleansed, which often included kneeling before him out of respect for his priestly position.

MARK: 1: 40-41 "And there came a leper to him beseeching him and kneeling down to him and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean."

Jesus recognizes the man’s reverence and his sincerity and faith as the man kneels begging to be cleansed and Jesus, of course, shows His compassion and cleanses him.

Jesus through his crucifixion took upon himself our sins, thus cleansing us removing our sins. Is that any less miraculous than when He cleansed the Leper, or healed the blind or the deaf or the infirmed, or, is it what it is, the most generous of Jesus Compassionate, Merciful and miraculous gifts from Our God thru Jesus.

Fact of the matter is, Jesus, though the Son of God had such great respect for God the Father, that Jesus Himself knelt in prayer to God.

LUKE: 22: 41-42; "And he was withdrawn from them, about a stone’s cast and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless, not my will but thine be done."

As for my last question, I am not aware of any biblical scripture that "Commands" us to kneel before Our God as we pray, but, I strongly recommend that If you are seeking God’s help, or, offering Thanksgiving, or, pleading forgiveness and mercy and graces, from Jesus, from God, it might be in your best interest to demonstrate respect and reverence giving homage to your Father, your Creator, your forgiver, your heavenly intercessor, your God.

Paul does tell us in his letter to the Romans at: ROMANS: 14: 11; "For it is written, As I live saith the Lord,(meaning Jesus) every knee shall bow to me, every tongue shall confess to God.

For me, as a "Christian" obedient to both Our Father and to Jesus Christ, this is a command from Jesus that every knee shall bow in prayer, in confession, in thanksgiving and yes, simply out of respect to the Lord My God, My Creator, My Father and My Brother. I would never kneel out of fear, but, out of respect and reverence, you better believe I will, without hesitation.

In both Old and New Testaments we are told that every knee will bow down one day before Jesus. I am not stiff kneed, so I choose to bow and kneel before my God.
