Microsoft Releases 2008 Versions Of Windows, SQL Servers

Microsoft would next week, release the latest versions of its 2008 servers called the Windows Server 2008 and the SQL Server 2008.
The launch of the two separate servers is expected to revolutionise the server and the database enterprise market.

Speaking at a roundtable discussion with journalists at the weekend in Lagos, Country Manager for Microsoft Nigeria, Mr. Chineye Mba-Uzoukwu, revealed that the Microsoft Window Server 2008 comes with a built-in web and virtualisation technologies that will enable customer increase the reliability and flexibility of their server infrastructure, while the Microsoft 2008 version of the SQL Server will provide trusted, productive and intelligent data platform that enables the customer run most demanding mission critical applications. Both Servers will be launched simultaneously next week.

Speaking on the benefits of Window Server 2008, Ndee Uwadoka, public relations and events manager for Microsoft Nigeria said the latest version server will provide customers with a rock-solid server foundation that is secure, manageable, responsive, interoperable, and compatible, a platform that will support rapid development and delivery of smart and connected applications, as well as agility to increase operational efficiency an Information Technology (IT) effectiveness.

Other benefits according to her, include policy-based networking, improved remote management and enhanced end-user collaboration, as well as an application platform that provides flexible solutions, connected system, and rich user experiences, as well as a platform that will provide more secure and reliable IT infrastructure, to help organissations meet projects objectives on time and within budget, allowing staff to focus on priorities important to the company.

Giving reasons for the need for customer upgrade to Windows Server 2008, Uwadoka said the 2008 server is a next generation server operating system (OS) that helps IT maximize control over their infrastructure, while providing unprecedented availability and management that leads o a significantly more secure, reliable and robust server environment. Windows Server 2008 builds on the success and strength of Window Server 2003 and Window Server 2003 R2.
The Microsoft SQL Server for database application runs on most mission critical applications on a secure, reliable and scalable platform.
