THURSDAY QUICK HITS

Colorado and the Mets played a double header in New York with the Rockies taking game one 6-5. At the conclusion of this game the Rockies are 9-2 their best start in franchise history.
The Rockies had a three run lead going into the ninth but the Mets cut the lead to one with a two run shot from Scott Hairston. They then loaded the bases and David Wright flew out to the warning track for the final out of the game.
Carlos Gonzalez(1) and Troy Tulowitzki (6) homered for the Rockies and Greg Reynolds gets his first win of the season.

Game two between the Rockies and Mets went no better for New York as they lost again this time 9-4, Colorado is now 10-2. The Mets fall to 4-8 and Chris Capuano gets the loss and is now 1-1. He allowed seven runs on eight hits.
The Rockies Jorge De La Rosa is now 2-0 giving up four runs on five hits. Jonathan Herrera (1) and Troy Tulowitzki (7) homered for the Rockies. Troy also had a home run in the first game.

In the final game of their series against the Nationals the Phillies sent Cliff Lee to the mound to win game three and the series, he did not disappoint. Lee pitched a complete game shutout giving up three hits and striking out twelve. The night before Roy Halladay also pitched a complete game to beat the Nationals. Lee was one strikeout short of his career high and this was his 21st complete game.
Jordan Zimmerman was on the mound for Washington and had a perfect game through five innings. Facing Carols Ruiz first up in the sixth, Ruiz answered the bell with a home run over the left field wall. Zimmerman then gave up a double to Shane Victorino later in the inning who scored on an error by Jerry Hairston. That would be all Lee and the Phils
needed. Final score Phillies win 4-0. The Phillies are now 9-3 and Washington 5-7.

It took ten innings and having to overcome a five run deficit but the Yankees did both beating the Orioles 6-5 and taking all three games in the series.
The Yankees tied it in the ninth with a Jorge Posada(5) home run and won in the tenth with a sacrifice fly by Nick Swisher. Mariano Rivera gets his first win in relief for New York.
The Orioles loss goes to Mike Gonzalez now 0-1. Right fielder Nick Markakis had a good night for Baltimore going three for five with three RBI. Baltimore goes to 6-5 and the Yankees are now 7-4 on the season.
