The festival is committed to God Shiva one of the mightiest and known as a destroyer out of main three gods, Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. Since snake is worshiped in <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">India</st1:place></st1:country-region> as an envoy of God Shiva, who even wears snake as a wreath in his neck.</p>

People perform a &ldquo;Pooja&rdquo; prayer to God Shiva, feed snakes with milk and ghee distribute &ldquo;Prashad&rdquo; sweets &amp; &ldquo;Bhang&rdquo; marijuana shake (a shake made of marijuana, milk, ice, sugar, tulsi and dry fruits) among neighbors and relatives, Bollywood songs and bhajans are played and a cultural gathering takes place in which everyone dances and sings and enjoys the festival with an open heart, buy &amp; sell snake and Shiva picture cards to make some extra money for the special festive dinner <span style="">&nbsp;</span></p>

In the North- eastern parts when the rains are extremely heavy most of the times taking the face of a devastating flood, snake charmers collect different types of dangerous and life taking snakes from the greener and the remote village areas and migrate to small towns and cities with there snakes inside small hand made bags. Snake charmers collect a huge amount of money by presenting these snakes in the public or locals. <span style="">&nbsp;</span></p>
