Obama Continues Momentum, Faces Attacks From McCain

It was anticipated that US Democratic hopeful and co-frontrunner Hillary Clinton would win Wisconsin due to the blue-collared Democratic voters. However it was not the case as Obama had claimed victory in Wisconsin. Hillary Clinton has ten straight losses while Barack Obama has ten straight wins.

Both Democratic candidates head into the important contests on March 4th in Texas and Ohio. Those two states are “must win” states for Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Her husband, former US President Bill Clinton while stumping in Texas said that those two contests will either make or break her campaign.

Obama grabbed Hawaii from Clinton by a vote for 76 percent to 24 percent. It was anticipated that Obama would win in Hawaii due to being born and spending the first six years of his life there.

In the case of Wisconsin, Obama had split the women’s vote and the Catholic vote. He had even led amongst those that do not have a college degree. Obama still maintained his edge in the groups that had helped him win in the past contests. However, it was still apparent that Obama is favored by younger voters while Clinton is favored by the older voters.

In a presidential campaign marked mostly by sharp turns, surprising development and shattered predictions, the Democratic contest has now become a story of remarkable consistency,” according to Vaughn Ververs, CBSNews.com’s senior political editor. He adds: “Tonight saw more of the same – more victories by Barack Obama, more erosion of support from the types of voters who once formed Hillary Clinton’s base and more separation between the two. It’s all making it more and more likely Barack Obama will win the Democratic nomination.”

With Obama’s wins, attacks against him from GOP frontrunner John McCain followed soon after. McCain had attacked Obama’s rhetoric.

“I will fight every moment of every day in this campaign to make sure Americans are not deceived by an eloquent but empty call for change … that promises no more than a holiday from history and a return to the false promises and failed policies of a tired philosophy that trusts in government more than the people,” McCain had said taking a jab at Obama.

He would refer to what Obama said in regards to Pakistan.
