Reliance, Vipul and DuPont to launch Eco-friendly Saris in India

DuPont, the US-based technology giant, has joined hands with Reliance Industries and Vipul Fashions to launch eco-friendly saris in India. Reliance will produce yarn made of DuPont’s renewable fiber product, Sorona, and Vipul will be responsible for manufacturing the saris.

DuPont Perception of the Indian market

DuPont is anticipating a growth of 13% in the Indian market. It sees agriculture and food, advanced materials and industrial biosciences as the key drivers in India. DuPont President, South Asian and ASEAN, Balvinder Singh Kalsi, said, “India is a very strategic market for overall growth of DuPont and is about the 8th largest country globally from a revenue perspective. We are expecting around 12% to 13% growth in sales for our company in the upcoming year.”

DuPont is very enthusiastic about introducing more and more sustainable and eco-friendly products in the Indian market. It is very optimistic about its partnership with Reliance and Vipul. With respect to the Sorona green saris, Kalsi said, “By partnering with industry veterans, Reliance and Vipul, DuPont is able to bring together all the elements necessary to offer a compelling product for today’s evolved Indian consumers. The company’s product, Sorona, will be launched first time in India and that, too, on the ethnic wear of the Indian women, saris.”

Sorona Saris

Sorona is a bio-polymer fiber. It is derived from renewable plant-based sources and not from conventional synthetic fibres that are sourced from fossil fuels.

The fiber has characteristics similar to that of silk, thus giving the Sorona saris a silken feel. The premium collection will offer superior softness and color brilliance. The saris will be light, easy to maintain and offering excellent drape.

Vipul Fashions and Reliance Polyester

Vipul Fashions is one of the major players of Surat’s textile industry. Established in 1974, the company has been a trusted brand for women’s ethnic fashion wear. Vipul will make the Sorona product available in 1,000 stores across 100 cities in India.

Reliance Industries pioneered the market in textiles as well. It is the largest producer of polyester fiber and yarn in the world, with a capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per annum.

Reliance invests significant amounts of money on R&D to enhance its products. Reliance Polyester Sector Head, Rakesh Gaur, expressed his happiness on the development with DuPont. He said, “We are pleased to bring yarns based on Sorona to the Indian textiles through this collaboration with DuPont.”
