Self-immolation victim is no more

The 28-year-old vegetable trader hailing form Ghagwal, Jaswant Singh was battled for life in the Emergency Ward of PGI Chandigarh, succumbed to his burn injuries today in Chandigarh.
The deceased had attempted self-immolation two days back to protest the delay in implementation of the agreement between Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS) and State Govt over the land row on Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
Relevant to mention here that resident of Ghagwal town of Kathua district, 60 km from Jammu, Jaswant had sprinkled kerosene on himself and attempted self-immolation on September 22 inside his shop. He was not happy with the treatment meted out to the leaders of the SAYSS by the police outside Abhinav Theatre where a function was to be organized by the Samiti to honour the martyrs of two months long Jammu agitation. The police had prevented the Samiti members and its supporters from organizing the programme and had opened firing and teargas shells in which several people were injured. The deceased, however, had not left any suicide note behind.
