A total of 40,228 service electors will be exercising their right to vote in the coming J&K Assembly elections 2008 beginning November 17. Jammu district with 14,101 service electors leads the pack followed by Leh with 5,690 service voters. Srinagar district, in Kashmir division, has the lowest 14 service electors registered. Out of the overall service electorate of 40,228, 33,233 are male and only 6,995 are female voters. With this, the total electorate registered in J&K for the coming Assembly elections is 65,37,821 which includes 33,85,380 male and 31,52,441 female voters.
Division wise, Jammu leads with 31,209 while as 9,019 are from Kashmir Division. In Leh district, out of the 5,690 service electors, 4,529 are male while as 1,161 are female voters. In adjoining Kargil district all 679 service electors registered are male.
Constituency-wise, 48-Leh leads with 4,766 service electors while as Iddgah, Khanyar and Sonawar have no service electors registered. Pattan, Gurez, Home Shalibug, Dooru, Kokernag, Bijbehara, Pahalgam, Kargil, Zanskar and Nowshera Assembly constituencies don’t have any women service electors registered.
In Jammu Division, the other districts having substantial registration of service voters include newly-created district of Samba with 4,099 which include 3,721 male voters and 378 female voters. Kathua district also has 3,584 registered service electorate eligible to vote including 2,734 male and 850 female voters. In Rajouri district, 2,861 service electors are eligible to vote including 2,555 male and 306 female voters. In the adjoining Poonch district, 1,716 service electorate are registered including 1,621 male and 95 female voters. District Doda has 1,220 service electors which includes 878 male and 342 female voters.
In Kashmir province, north district of Kupwara leads with 942 service electorate including 697 male and 245 females. In the neighbouring Baramulla district, total of 748 service electors have been registered including 634 male and 114 female voters.
Among the newly-created districts in Kashmir Division, Bandipora leads with 420 registered service electors. Of these, 345 are male and 75 female voters. Another newly-carved out Ganderbal district has a total of 65 service voters (42 male and 23 females) while as Kulgam has 68 registered service voters out of which 61 are male. Shopian district has 20 registered service electorate. In the nearby Anantnag district, 132 service electorate have been registered including 129 male and 3 female voters. Pulwama district in South Kashmir has 168 service electors registered including 134 male and 34 female voters. Only 73 service voters are registered in district Budgam which includes 57 male and 16 female voters.
In Jammu division, among the newly-created districts, other than Samba which leads with 4,099 service electors, Kishtwar has 737 service voters including 573 male and 164 females. Reasi has 579 service electors eligible to exercise their franchise including 439 male and 140 female voters. Ramban has a total of 364 service voters including 293 male and 71 females.
In Udhampur district, a total of 1,948 service electors are expected to vote out of which 1,449 are male and 499 female voters.
