We live in a dangerous world today, especially with nuclear weapons around. Many people have no idea.
After the collapse of the former Soviet Union, in the 1980’s numerous "suitcase nukes" disappeared. No one in Russia or the United Staets today has a clue where they went… and as far as I can tell both countries has stopped looking for them altogether.
According to some unconfirmed reports al-Qaeda operatives may have purchased at least one of these weapons for $30 million dollars in cash and Iran may have purchased as many as three or more for $300 million dollars in cash five years ago. Saudi Arabia may have tried to buy one as well.Of course there is no way to confirm or deny this information with U.S. intelligence officials, who tell me "I have no right to know this information as an American citizen?"
BLOODY HELL!
At the same time the experts tell us the risk of a devestating nuclear strike against the United States is geater now than it has ever been during the cold war.
According to the government your odds of dying in a nuclear attack are 33% percent, your odds of being killed by the radiation are about 1 in 25, and your odds of being physically unaffected are about 50% depending on where you live. To make matters worse this year President Obama is currently calling for $708 billion dollars in defense spending, which is an insane amount, At the same time there is not one red cent budgeted for the the kind of civil defense programs that could keep Americans alive in the event of what experts say is a probable attack from terrorists. I checked with officials where I live at and found out there is no local contingency to survive a nuclear blast. Which means we are on our own.
I can convince people in Washington D.C. to take civil defense more seriously but I can share information about what I know with the public.
When I was in the infantry back in the early 1980’s, during the height of the Cold War, I was given some tips by the Department of Defense on what to do in a Nuclear, Biological or Chemical attack, in the form of a little card which I kept in my wallet for many years.
Across the top of the card was written the sobering statement:
"Read Frequently – Your life may depend on knowing this information!"
Today that still seems like very good advice!
WHAT TO DO IN A NUCLEAR ATTACK
Aways stay protected in underground shelters, basements, foxholes, tanks, when not required to be in the open.
STEP ONE: If you see a brilliant flash of light, DIVE FOR COVER or FALL FLAT on the ground, face down. Protect your head, eyes and exposed skin, Stay down until objects around you stop falling!
STEP TWO: Stay Calm, Check your weapon and equipment for damage. Contact your leader.
STEP THREE: Continue Mission – be ready for further enemy attack. If fallout is expected, improve your position, as situation permits. When fallout does arrive, cover up and stay covered but alert until fallout stops.
CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL ATTACK
Once chemical or biological agents have been used or information is available that they are about to be used and your position is hit by rockets, bombs, spray or smoke
1) Stop Breathing
2) Mask (if you have one).
3) Give alarm and warning to those around you.
4) Seek cover from spray if mission permits.
5) Continue your mission.
6) Remain masked until ordered to unmask.
Also
Button up your clothing all the way.
Observe personal sanitation, hygiene and area sanitation.
East and drink only approved food and water.
If your a civilian move in a general direction away from the nuclear cloud burst, or crater.
These general guidelines will "increase" your probability of surviving an attack using a nuclear weapon or dirty bomb today.
