Fate of BD Former Caretaker Government Chiefs
Dr. Shamimul Moula, Ph.D. Dhaka, 1 March Tuesday (Scoop news)
Now, for the time being the former Caretaker Government Chief Adviser Fakhruddin & former Army Chief General (Rtd.) Moin U Ahmed is not returning to Bangladesh. Both of them are now staying in USA with 5 years valid multiple exit entry visa! Fakhruddin is now showing his busyness as a guest lecturer in diferent Universities and residing in own home at Washington. General (Rtd.) Moin U Ahmed stationed himself at Florida with his wife and son, who completed his graduation and now to be admitted for a masters degree. The retired Army Chief’s close circles have already informed that General (Rtd.) Moin was staying in US mainly for his son’s admission.
A close source of Fakhruddin informed that he would stay at USA and there is no possibility of his return to Bangladesh again. He left his Government quarter, kept his goods in a rented house under his relatives before he left for USA quietly! His close sources also mentioned that Mr. Fakhruddin understood his position well in Bangladesh and finished his all deeds here before leaving finally. It is widely known in Bangladesh and abroad that an ex-middle positioned World Bank Executive became Chief Adviser of caretaker Government for facilitating Prof. Yunus’s climbing in the highest state power through favorable acts by caretaker Government, but later Prof. Ynus’s attempt was aborted for his very little people’s acceptance in comparison to the present PM Hasina, who has wide spread popularity. However it is also widely known that General Moin U Ahmed was the only Bangladeshi Army Chief who dared to punish the corrupted Bangladeshi politicians during Care taker Government and new PM Hasina didn’t give any ministerial position to any body who was sentenced with punishment for corruptions, cases filed by CA Government and backed by the ex-Army Chief General Moin U. Ahmed who finally flew for USA for staying there. Whether this passage due to Mr. Fakhruddin’s questioned acts during Caretaker Government, nobody could tell that in a clear voice. It is also widely known that, if Mr. Fakhruddin could stay as firm as General Moin U Ahmed, greater success could be achieved. Mr. Fakhruddin and some of his associates always tried to balance between Awamy League and corrupted BNP regime which was in power before 1/11 state of emergency.
In the other hand, the familial source of former Army Chief General (Rtd.) Moin U Ahmed confirmed that he was also not coming back to Bangladesh within near future. The source also informed that the General left Bangladesh in September 2010 along with his wife and has been staying there for almost last 6 months but maintaining close contacts with his friends in Bangladesh. He is trying to be busy in writing about his experiences during Care Taker Government. In the other hand, the parliamentary subcommittee has recently decided to call both Mr. Fakhruddin, the Chief Adviser of last Care Taker Government and former Chief of Army Staff General (Rtd.) Moin U Ahmed for their statements before the Parliamentary Subcommittee about an incidence at Dhaka University play ground among the the students, teachers and the soldiers in 2007. Recently the Parliamentary Subcommittee is decorated with some constitutional power to summon any one and has taken power to utilize the police to bring the summoned person before the committee if any body fails to respond in the subcommittee’s call. As both of Mr. Fakhruddin, the Chief Adviser of last Care Taker Government and former Chief of Army Staff general (Rtd.) Moin U Ahmed are outside the country in USA, now the Parliamentary Subcommittee has to handover the summons to the foreign ministry of Bangladesh for finally to send those to Bangladesh Embassy at USA and if that is done, it will be a very long procedure as Bangladeshi police force could be of little use to bring them from their USA dugouts! However the the Parliamentary Subcommittee is planning to summon them to be present in their next meeting.
It might be recalled that the last Care Taker Government in Bangladesh arrested many political leaders in charge of specific corruptions under the leadership of both Mr. Fakhruddin, the Chief Adviser of last Care Taker Government and former Chief of Army Staff General (Rtd.) Moin U Ahmed. Many of them was convicted and punished by the court, but came out through legal procedures after caretaker Government and re-elected in the BD parliament, but Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina didn’t allow the convicted to get Ministerial and other important positions. The major portions of such "deprived" politicians are now left at the parliamentary subcommittees by PM Hasina as the consolations as thought by many in Bangladesh.
