Like millions of people across the globe, have just watched Obama being sworn in President of the United States. As a media person , am familiar with the political rhetoric . Here was someone who spoke more from the heart than the intellect. In fact our ancient scriptures say the higher stage is beyond intellect. It cannot be described nor can it be explained. But it may be experienced. The swearing in as well as the speech mirrored this truth. It was elegant, it was moving, it was inspiring and it was participatory in nature.Above all the speech too as well as the manner of the first family spoke of reconciliation— and an effort to draw in every segment of society in the rebuilding of the nation.Nor was the larger responsibility for global cause played down.
If Obama could become what he became and be what he is , a difficult task no doubt, this great nation could still become the beacon of liberty and fairplay everywhere.
Yes, power is a tool, and a powerful tool. It has to be employed for the furtherance of good and in pursuit of perfection, or near perfection because by nature this world is imperfect.
Americans are not the only people suffering the efects of recession, near zero growth and hyperinflation. The world is hungering for attention and who else but the superpower, repeat superpower, could assuage their fears and alleviate their pain.
We pray that Obama succeed in his mission to restore the primacy of the founding fathers’ ideals everywhere.
