If you watched events unfolding up to the victory speech by Barrack Obama, you may have noticed the tears in the eyes of the 100,000 or more that gathered in a playground in Chicago to pay tribute to the first President elect of color in the United States.
It was particularly evident in the eyes of Jesse Jackson, a former runner for the most coveted office in America.
Why the big deal?
Well, for one the Obama campaign victory marks the realization of Martin Luther King Jr.’s widely popular “I have a dream speech.” King Jr. had a dream that everyone in these United States would be treate equal, ending the segragation policies at that time.
Little did he know that Obama, although not a pastor like Jackson and King, would change the fate of this nation. In essence, one man’s dream has become another man’s task.
Obama has proven that American is ready to embrace change. A change that includes not just African Americans, but other minorities as well. Riding on the heels of the vote on equality is also the discontentment with the Iraq war and the preoccupation with terror that has reigned supreme over American politics since September 11, 2001.
Maybe, the Obama regime will mean good news on Wall Street, as well, with the looming financial turmoil stemming from the credit crisis spelling another message of doom for the Republicans.
