The “Resident Evil” franchise has been one of the most popular game franchises from the mid-1990s until this present day. The series was created Shinji Mikami and developed by Capcom. Over the years, Resident Evil has been one of the flagship franchises of this company which is most notable for its fighting game series “Street Fighter.”
For those that have been fans of the franchise should know the following games of “Resident Evil,” “Resident Evil 2,” “Resident Evil 3: Nemesis,” “Resident Evil: Code Veronic,” “Resident Evil: Survivor,” “Resident Evil: Survivor 2: Code Veronica,” “Resident Evil: Dead Aim,” “Resident Evil Outbreak,” “Resident Evil Outbreak: File 2,” “Resident Evil 4,” “Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles,” and the soon to be released “Resident Evil 5.”
It was through the Resident Evil franchise that the new genre known as “survival horror” was coined. However, one needs to pay respects to the “Alone in the Dark” franchise that was the father of the genre. But, it was Resident Evil that revolutionized it.
For those that are not familiar with Resident Evil, it is a battle against a pharmaceutical company known as the Umbrella Corporation that secretly created the T-Virus which turns things into monsters. It also had the capability to bring back the dead as flesh hungry zombies.
Back in 2002, the first movie adaptation of Resident Evil came out with Milla Jovavich starring as Alice and Michelle Rodriguez starring as Rain Ocampo. In 2004, its sequel “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” was released. Last year, the third film known as “Resident Evil: Extinction” would premiere.
However, none of them have had any connection with the actual video game universe. For the most part, it did not seem that the movies were well received by the video game’s fan base.
During the weekend, “Resident Evil: Degeneration” premiered across Japan.
Resident Evil: Degeneration seems to be a true movie adapted from the Resident Evil universe. Unlike the last three movies, RE: Degeneration is complete CG animated.
The storyline of RE: Degeneration takes place seven years after the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield from Resident Evil 2 are the main protagonists of this new full-length feature film.
This movie looks promising. Hopefully, this film will be widely received.
Resident Evil: Degeneration will be available in North America come December 30 of this year in both DVD and Blu-ray format.
So far there are zombies and one monster present in the trailer. One can hope that there will be Lickers, Hunters, Tyrants, and all the other terrifying monsters in the Resident Evil games.
