What does an Australian rockstar do when waiting for a plane?
He lays on the floor of Adelaide Airport catching up on sleep after a late night concert.
That was the case for the lead singer of Australian rock band, "Thirsty Merc", the day after supporting US band "Matchbox Twenty" at the Adelaide Entertainment centre.
Lead frontman, Rai Thistlethwaite, lay with his hands behind his head – he had not a care in the world.
With his rockstar sunglasses – which did not give the "look" away, but rather it was the big afro hair that confirmed the identity.
And yes, it does look neater up close.
That was when I knew it was him, and I walked straight up to him.
"Excuse me, are you the lead singer of "Thirsty Merc?"
"Yes", he replied, sitting up straight away and standing up all clean shaven as if his lifestyle had no effect on his grooming in general.
When asked about how "Matchbox Twenty" were to support throughout their "Exile in Australia" tour, he agreed that they looked after them "really well".
Reminiscing the concert of the previous night, a man in the crowd had yelled out, "You’re so sick!" to them after the song, "She’s my brother".
Thistlethwaite was not concerned by it.
But you cannot let anything get you down.
He willingly signed an autograph, and I bid them farewell.
And walking back down the gates, were two average looking men waiting in line for a Perth flight.
They were the guitarist and drummer of "Matchbox Twenty".
It seems Adelaide is the place to lay low for rock stars.
