India started hesitantly after early loss of Robin Uthappa and then again jolted at 56, losing Rohit Sharma, who was otherwise going great guns. With sensible play from both Goutam Gambhir and Suresh Raina, it never looked like Bangladesh would be able to pull up a sensational victory.
Nonetheless, both Gambhir and Raina, miscued early in the innings and Bangladesh fielders, exposing their weakness and class, ceremonially dropped the resultant high fliers. The catches were not too difficult and had to be taken to register good wins in international cricket. Their overall fielding was lackadaisical. Unfortunately Bangladesh had been playing international cricket for quite a number of years and more is expected of 15 crore Bangladeshis!
In the end India won in the 43rd over, which proved to be a cake-walk, by 7 wickets, with some late fireworks from Suresh Raina, hitting 11 sixes and remaining not out at 116 and Ghambhir missing ton by 10 runs. Incidentally this was second century by top of the form Raina after the one against lowly placed Hongkong who also won his third successive Man of the Match award in as many matches.
However this match proved to be a mile-stone in one day history of India starting 1974. For the first time in ODI history India have won 328 matches against 327 lost.
