In a rare occurrence, a convergence of Indian and US (and of course Afghanistan) opinion is taking concrete shape, on the issue of attack on Indian embassy in Kabul recently and acts of sponsoring and supporting terrorism in general by the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan.
Earlier, in spite of the best efforts made by the NDA regime to convince the USA of the involvement of ISI in the hijacking of Indian plane to Kandahar in 1999 and attack on Indian Parliament in 2001, Washington was lukewarm on Indian insistence that epicenter of terrorism was located inside Pakistan.
Intelligence network of India, Afghanistan and even USA have now picked up separate chain of evidences on the attack on Indian Embassy in Kabul that converges to the conclusion of involvement of ISI in the attack.
Indian and Afghan leaders has been airing frequently that the Indian Embassy attack was the handiwork of ISI and the issue is likely to be consolidated during the visit of Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s visit to India on 4th July’08.
Now after independently verifying the Indian position on its embassy attack, the US has started putting pressure on the Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and reportedly has already made some hard talks with Gilani in the matter.
However for the present, hard options against Pakistan are not being considered as US and NATO forces are getting their supplies substantially through Pakistan and as US is firmly engrossed in antiterrorist activities in Iraq, apart from Iran irritants.
